Mindset for Success

Don’t Be Intimidated. Companies are not mysterious and unknowable entities. They’re made up of people who put their pants on in the morning, just like you. So don’t be intimidated. Find the right person to approach, and reach out. Be yourself and pitch yourself!

Don’t Wait for Inspiration. You might not always feel stoked to do what you know you have to do. Do it anyway. Waiting until the stars align is a great way to never get going. So identify the smallest next step you can take, and just take it.

Quote of the Week

“It’s not what we do every once in a while that shapes our lives. It’s what we do consistently.”

― Tony Robbins

One Small Step You Can Take Today

Let’s get real for a minute. If you’re like most people on this list, you’re not actually job hunting. You’re just thinking about job hunting.

We get it, it’s fun.

Living in a world of options and possibilities is great. After all, you can be whatever you want to be in your imagination.

And of course, you know you can’t stay there, in your imagination. You know that nothing changes until you take action. Of course…

But action can be intimidating.

It can feel like this huge thing. Especially when you’ve been following us for a while, and you know you want to do what it takes to stand out. And that’s a lot of work.

And so you just kick the can down the road and promise yourself you’ll get to it later. When the time is right.

And you keep dreaming in the mean time.

But then, before you know it, three months, and then six months have passed, and you’re still in the same place you were before. And what’s worse, you now have even less free time than you did at the beginning.

What now?

Well, first you need to realize that what makes successful people successful is not that they have more time. We all have 24h in a day, and 7 days in a week.

The thing that sets successful people apart is that they keep showing up every single day, no matter what.

You know this.
But how do you get yourself to do it?

Here’s the one simple trick: identify the smallest step you can take, today, to bring yourself closer to your goal. Then, take it.

Find one company you’d love to work for.
Find one hiring manager’s email address.
Write one sentence for your reach out email.
Book one 15 minute coaching call.

Some days, you will spend only 5 minutes doing this. Some days, it might be as little as 30 seconds. But every day, you’re inching closer and closer.

And that’s the key.
That’s how you zero in on success.

Is this the ideal way of going about your job hunt?
No.

But much like with dieting and working out, it makes little sense to worry about what the very best plan is, if you’re currently not doing anything.

The perfect plan is the one you actually execute.

There is no shortage of plans, there’s a shortage of people willing to put in the work — especially under less than ideal circumstances.

So take that smallest step today.
If only to prove to yourself that you’re serious about your ambitions.

Just remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to move you one inch closer to your goal.
