Recapping this week’s DJH
Mindsets for Success
One of the best ways to launch a career without school, college, or experience — to be your own credential — is to prove your knowledge of tech tools with a screencast. Basically, you can use a tool like Loom to record yourself using and explaining a software tool that a company might use, e.g.
(See a list of common tech tools for each role type in our career guides).
This doesn’t need to perfect, but it’s powerfully valuable to do this.
Life is a Game
There are no official rules to career, or life. Just games! Let go of strict rule following, and thinking “I have to” do X.
Rather, you can choose to enter into games, and playfully participate as desired.

Quote of the Week
“Work takes on new meaning when you feel you are pointed in the right direction. Otherwise, it’s just a job, and life is too short for that.”
— Tim Cook
Are You Choosing to Settle?
Do you want to lay on your deathbed, thinking, “I had an OK life.”
“OK,” or even “pretty good.” Is that an evaluation you are comfortable with?
There’s not a right answer here!
There’s no approval you need from me or anyone else.
If you never do work you love, but you are happy because you are grateful for your friends and family, that’s a wonderful thing.
The point is not that you “should” follow your bliss, and be head-over-heals for your One Life Mission, oozing with meaning and purpose and impact.
Let go of “should.”
The two words I invite you to focus on are:
What are YOUR values, preferences, and priorities?
You have a gift of one life, so choose to author your own story, whatever that looks like.
When it comes to how you bring in income, I do invite you to — as Steve Jobs famously said – Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish.
Deep down I believe your soul wants to light up and tackle specific creative endeavors.
It is your birthright to actualize that soul.
But it’s not an obligation.
What path will you choose? I hope it’s one you can smile about, 50 years from now.
