Passion vs. Priorities

It’s great to know what you’re passionate about, but are you aware of your priorities, too?

Let’s say you have a pipe dream to be a rock star. Awesome!

But are you aware of what it will take to get there (thousands of hours of practice)?
Do you want to travel all the time for tours (or are you a homebody who wants a family)?
Are you ready to build relationships with fellow band members?

All these are secondary factors that contribute into the pipe dream of becoming a rock star.

By all means go after your pipe dream, unabashedly. Follow your bliss! The point here is to be honest with yourself, and follow your priorities as well as your passion.

If your priority is a predictable salary, time to go golfing 3 times a week, or to get to sleep by 10pm, then you’ll want to weight the cost-benefit of how badly you want to be a rock star.

Weight your dreams in comparison to all of life’s other considerations. Then make the best decision for you.

There’s no right or wrong here, just choices and tradeoffs.
