“I’m not qualified”

Be aware of the little voice in your head saying you’re not qualified to get a certain job.

As Henry Ford said,…

“If you think you can, you’re right. If you think can’t, you’re right.”

As Wayne Gretzky said…..

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

Now take these quotes to heart. Apply them.

Set your vision on an opportunity you desire, and GO for it. PITCH them. Shoot a 30 second video with enthusiasm, and email it to a human at a company.

You’ll feel thrilled once you do it.

Your Retail Experience is Valuable

Maybe you’ve got experience in retail, but you want to move into a work-from-home job.

That’s totally doable!

Take pride in your retail background. You built great soft skills like empathy, curiosity, work ethic, and customer service.

Those soft skills are what matter most! You can then email a video pitch to a company and sell yourself on how you’ll bring those abilities to that company.

Ron Thurston, author of Retail Pride: The Guide to Celebrating Your Accidental Career joined Joel on this episode of Career Crashers podcast (now known as DJH Audio Edition).

“So there’s a part of the book that really speaks to the pillars of retail success….the first one is empathy. Because empathy is really about listening and understanding. And that’s with your team, that’s with your customer, that’s with your product is to be open to learn and be empathetic to what’s happening.”
